Cole Cook is a mixed medium artist living and working in Truro, MA. A native of Los Angeles, Cole finds the Outer Cape to be a place of safety, reflection, and inspiration. Being in this landscape is an important part of his artistic life and process. A former professional athete, Cole has always had a close relationship with the human body, and the influence of that lifelong intimacy, along with his love of the land (especially trees), can be seen in all his work.

Cole’s work highlights mass and movement; using simple lines and exposed woodgrain to remind the viewer that the human body is a part of nature, and not apart from nature. The use of negative space and shadowboxes create an ethereal quality in the forms, as they exist moment to moment, changing with the amount of light and the vantage point of the viewer. Influenced by his fascination with ancient history, Cole’s work explores the powers of Order and Chaos which are, according to the Egyptians of antiquity, the primary forces coexisting in each of us. At different times powerful, sexual, abstracted, and overt – Cole’s work is meant to be a celebration of body autonomy, and a reminder that our physical forms are wonderful, natural things.
